A summer hail storm six miles wide swept across Hardin County, devastating 95,000 Iowa soybean and corn acres. Grain and plant pathology experts from Iowa State University Extension gave grain growers and buyers unbiased, science-based information to help them make management decisions. Producers and buyers needed information on handling, selling and storing the grain that was salvageable.
One of the Iowa State experts was Charles Hurburgh, professor-in-charge of the Iowa Grain Quality Initiative, an information and research program. Researchers of the initiative provide information on grain marketing and distribution as well as country grain elevator management practices.
